Make a beautiful bud vase from a single piece of wood; it will include a glass tube for holding your flower in water. This project uses all the basic spindle turning techniques, including boring a hole to fit the glass tube. We will begin by turning a billet of wood between centers into a cylinder using a spindle roughing gouge. We mount this cylinder in a chuck, bore the tube hole, and shape the remainder with a detail gouge. We finish the bottom by mounting the vase on the drill in the headstock and slicing a concave into the bottom. You may want to savor the beauty of the wood and apply an oil finish or paint it with a faux metal patina.
