Hot stamping (or foil stamping) is a method of relief printing that is used for adding titles to books. In this workshop, students will be introduced to the equipment and materials used for this process, have the opportunity to practice some of the most common techniques, and get advice on what sort of equipment they might consider for their own studios.
Students will do some type setting (using brass type), learn how to order a photoengraved hot stamping die, and practice stamping on a variety of materials. Students will leave with sample labels and directly stamped sample book covers.
Tools & Supplies: All tools and supplies are provided for this class.
*Optional - Students may bring a book cover (not cased in) for direct stamping
