Class is full

Dates: Saturday, November 14th & Sunday, November 15th (2 meetings)

Hours: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Instructor: Todd Pattison

This workshop will focus on techniques for sympathetically conserving cloth bindings of artifactual value, with an emphasis on bindings from the 19th century. We will focus on two different types of repairs, one where most of the cloth spine is present and the second where the spine is missing. Both can be used on volumes with or without detached boards or a combination of one board attached and one loose. The goal of both techniques is to save as much of the original binding materials as possible while creating a sympathetic repair in a minimal amount of time.

Tools & Supplies: *Participants should bring at least two appropriate bindings to work on. All other tools and supplies will be provided for this class.
