Jewelry Making 101

Learn the basics of jewelry making and get to know your way around the bench. Move through a series of beginner-level projects to gain an understanding of basic fabrication and insight into more complex techniques.

Introduction to Copper Enameling
with Heather Wang
Date: Sunday, May 17th
Hours: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Instructor: Heather Wang
Enameling is the art of fusing colorful glass onto metal. In this class, we'll cover the basics of kiln firing unleaded enamel onto copper. We'll stick to jewelry scale pieces for this workshop (no large bowls or vessels).

Soldering Basics

Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays, June 9 - June 18 (4 meetings)

Learn the basics of soldering and annealing. Students will begin to grow comfortable with torch work while learning how to use it for the fabrication of a link bracelet, a half-round ring, and a twist ring.

Wax Carving & Casting Clean Up

Dates: Tuesday, July 7th; Thursday, July 9th; Tuesday, July 21st; (3 meetings)
*Skips a week in between class #2 and class #3.

Learn how to produce original pieces of jewelry from start to finish when working with a professional casting service. In this class, you will learn wax carving techniques and design and carve your own ring class one and two. In the third class, you will receive your work back, professionally cast in silver, and learn how to clean it and create a finished piece of jewelry. This class is great for beginner-level jewelers or jewelers looking to learn production techniques. Please note that the casting itself will not be done in class, but the process will be explained.

Jewelry Fabrication Techniques
with Kylie Weinzierl
Dates: Thursday's, July 16 - August 13 (5 meetings)
Hours: 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Instructor: Kylie Weinzierl
In this 5-week introductory class, students learn the fundamentals of jewelry-fabrication techniques to create their own wearable designs. We start with making basic findings, such as ear wire and jump rings, then move on to sawing, filing, bending, soldering, and other traditional fabrication skills to make a custom bezel-set ring. Using these skills, students then design and create a final project under the guidance of the instructor.
